Global Challenge Idea Showcase and Competition
Launched by CBCRP last fall, the Global Challenge to Prevent Breast Cancer was designed to uncover transformative prevention research ideas – and address the staggering statistic that, despite treatment advancements, people continue to be diagnosed with breast cancer at rates that have remained essentially unchanged over the past three decades. Finalists were selected from dozens of applications that were submitted to the Global Challenge and competed for two Grand Prizes and an Audience Choice Award at the Idea Showcase and Competition on May 15 in San Francisco.
The event took place before a capacity crowd at the Public Policy Institute of California, and an online audience tuning in from across the globe. Each finalist had just five minutes to make the case that their idea could revolutionize breast cancer prevention. Renowned surgeon, breast cancer prevention advocate, and author Dr. Susan Love delivered the event’s keynote address on “The Amazing Breast”. In addition to the two Grand Prize winners chosen by a judging committee of renowned experts and advocates, those in attendance and watching online also had their say, voting on an Audience Choice Award.
